on

We live in a church world that seems to truly be apathetic to the things going on around them.
We are more interested in keeping the lights on in the building and  making the members of the church happy...all the while the world in which we live is burning to the ground.

The people in the Bible were in  many ways the same way.  If you read 1 Samuel 17, you'll see the account of David and Goliath. The Armies of Israel were gathered to fight the Philistine...and they were not actively engaged in the battle...they were hanging out in their tents and hiding from the enemy...David shows up to see how the battle is going and says the following:

26 And David said to the men who stood by him, “What shall be done for the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?” 1 Sam 17:26
This KID shows up, and has more guts than the entire Army...and is saying in essence, 'Listen...these people (The Philistine) smearing the name of God, and I'm not going to stand for this...who is going to stand up to him?'  And his brother shows up and says:

28 Now Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spoke to the men. And Eliab's anger was kindled against David, and he said, “Why have you come down? And with whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your presumption and the evil of your heart, for you have come down to see the battle.” 1 Sam 17:28
WOW!  His own brother is saying 'Why are you even here?  You should have not even left your sheep.  The only reason you're here is to see some blood...you've got an evil heart.'

OUCH!

But David does not even flinch!  Look what he says:

29 And David said, “What have I done now? Is there not a cause?"
Talk  about calling his brother out!!  IS THERE NOT A CAUSE???  He just called them out and pretty much called them cowards!  Look what happens a few verses down.

31 When the words that David spoke were heard, they repeated them before Saul, and he sent for him. 32 And David said to Saul, “Let no man's heart fail because of him. Your servant will go and fight with this Philistine. 1 Sam 17:31-32

Because David saw that the need for action was very real...plus he believed and trusted in God, he was placed in the spot to be used by God.  And we all know the end of the story...David showed off the power of God and defeated  Goliath and Philistines.  What would have happened if he acted just like the rest of them and stayed quiet?

I have the same question for you church!  IS THERE NOT A CAUSE???

The battle is real...the enemy is real, and he's roaming around waging war...and God has called us to stand in HIS power and defeat that enemy.  The question is are we willing to actually do what God has called us to do? Don't be like David's brother...be like David and stand up for and be on the MISSION that God has called you into!

GO!  Make disciples!  Share the Gospel.  Don't be ashamed of Jesus Christ!
