4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice.
Phil 4:4
If you look around the world there is so much that is negative. News, blogs, attitudes, churches, people in general!
The sad thing is that Christians a lot of the time lump themselves into this same vein of thinking and acting…. I know some folks who are Christians who look as if they have been weaned on a dill pickle.
God has given us a command in the Bible:
Rejoice in the Lord always;
But not just that…but look at this.
5 Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand;
What is that??
The definition of reasonable is this:
‘capable of rational behavior, decision, etc.’
This is something our world and the church world especially is not really hip on. We are known for crazy people! And sometimes it’s not a good crazy. You see the thing is this…we (Christians) carry a banner with us everywhere we go. This banner screams ‘I BELONG TO JESUS!’ And we paint a picture of God by how we interact with people. If I’m not compassionate, people can and will think…well he’s supposed to be a Christian and that’s how he treated me…I don’t want anything to do with that ‘God of his.’ That’s not good. If I snap in anger at people that paints a picture. If I’m consumed with pride, this paints a picture. And sadly we have tons of people who are painting this picture.
The Bible has something for us.
#1. Rejoice in the Lord always
#2. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone.
If we are full of joy even in the face of adverse circumstances this paints a picture that God is bigger than my problems, and people are going to want to know more about why this is. And then you get to actually tell them why you’re full of JOY! Jesus is my foundation. Jesus is my life. It’s because He lives in me, that I am able to maintain. Without Him I have nothing.
Paint a picture that will bring people to want to GLORIFY JESUS!
