You Might Wanna Read this Before Going to See "50 Shades of Grey"

What universe are we in?

OUR PUBLIC SCHOOLS are now giving MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS, a word puzzle based on the the violent sex movie 50 Shades of Grey…

Students were given puzzles based on “Fifty Shades of Grey” that contained terms including “spanking,” ”submissive,” ”leather cuffs” and “bondage.” Other words on the list were more explicit. – Source: Fox News

Again I say…what universe are we in?

Ephesians 5:3-6English Standard Version (ESV)

3 But sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints. 4 Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving. 5 For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. 6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.

The movie 50 Shades of Grey is getting TONS of buzz right now…
The thing I found surprising was that it is getting a lot of POSITIVE buzz from Christians…and Christian WOMEN at that!!?

I’m not 100% sure why.

If you read Eph 5 in its context Christians should not even be entertaining these things.

Let’s break this text apart.

3 But sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints.

This is making a declarative statement. This is a command in this text. You see the devil seeks to destroy God’s divine work in his children and turn them as far away as possible from His image and will. So God says sexuality immorality MUST not even be close to you. You need to just stay away from it.

4 Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving.

This is a tough one, because most of us have fallen into this trap. ‘That’s what she said…’ off colored jokes, and crude comments about sex…God says here don’t even TALK THIS WAY. Our talk and communication should be PURE!

5 For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.

This is VERY strait forward…Jesus says here, that anyone who is engaging in this type of sin, habitually and has no repentance or sign of a broken spirit over this particular sin they won’t make it into God’s Kingdom (AKA Heaven). This is truly sobering and should challenge us to chase after God, not our sexual desires.

6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.

Lastly…there are so many people who say stuff like ‘it’s OK to joke around…stop being such a holier than thou type person…’ or something like ‘lighten up and enjoy life. It’s just a joke.’ Those are a type of ‘EMPTY WORDS.’ Don’t let people back you into a corner when you take a Biblical stand for something. Stand strong and stand firm.

Because here is the thing…God’s wrath is coming on those who engage in this type of sin.

So you might say ‘SHOOT…I’ve done some of this stuff….what does that mean???’
Well it means you’ve sinned (as have all of us.) What needs to happen is repentance! Ask God to forgive you for being disobedient and plead for his forgiveness! If you do that guess what??

HE. WILL. FORGIVE YOU!!

1 John 1:9
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

In short this film that everyone is buzzing about goes against everything in the scripture and you should avoid this movie and this book at all costs, your spiritual life may depend on it.

Just a thought on this to those who think I’m a crazy Bible thumper:
If I’m wrong about God and the Bible then I wasted my life. IF you’re wrong about God and the Bible you’ve wasted your eternity.
